BACKGROUND: Randall Gilbert

Born and raised in Warren, PA (USA), Randall Gilbert started singing publicly at age 11. At age 16 he taught himself to play acoustic guitar and sang in two choral ensembles at his high school in Warren. After winning the school’s Senior Award for Vocal Performance, he took his Framus 12-string and Harmony 6-string guitars with him to pursue a degree in psychology at Edinboro University. There he studied voice, sang in two select choral ensembles and recorded his arrangements during a number of university functions.  His experience singing opera and oratorio, mixed with the influence of musicians such as Don Ellis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Chicago, led Randall to think beyond the confines of acoustic genres.

After graduation, he returned to Warren and continued to perform in a variety of settings from service clubs and mother/daughter banquets, to rowdy weekend clubs. He moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1982 to pursue a graduate degree and bring his music to diverse audiences. There he started to gain attention as a classical soloist, guitarist, and keyboardist. With his degree he went to work in corporate America where he also authored two business books. But he never gave up his musical dream.

Randall gained attention in 2004 when he sang for a conference in the Coronado Springs Resort at Disney World. Promoters who heard him asked him to sing the following year on the Nascar circuit.

Following his exposure to Sarah Brightman’s music, his music took a Middle Eastern turn which led to the production of his debut CD, Mirage, in 2005. In 2006, his two-piece CD ("Once’ and ‘One Way to Paradise") Love Singles received an Editor’s Pick from CDBaby.com in Western European Music. This distinct honor is reserved for a handful of the 127,000 independent artists handled by CDBaby.com. Following the release of Love Singles, Randall’s pop arrangements progressed in a diverse direction with lyrics in Russian, English, French, and Italian. To date, Mirage and Love Singles have been heard around the world – from Europe to Japan. Both CDs are available online at CDBaby.com.

In 2006, Randall appeared on the Lifetime and Oxygen channels where his music attracted an even larger audience. His productions using acoustic guitars, keyboard, and world percussion complement his pure vocals.

Whether in the studio, on CD, or in concert, Randall Gilbert understands who he is and what he wants to convey. "For me, music represents a personal melodic statement. I want to thank you so much for listening and for joining me on this journey."
